corporate IT

one of the things that sort of bothers me about the army and IT is that its mixing old tradition with new tech or to say a new way of doing things. Imagine mixing John wayne with Justin long when your trying to get something done while getting shot at by someone. John Wayne will say a few lines then start shooting, Justin will start to bitch out like his character in Die Hard 4. Thats kind of the scene today as I sit here in my cubicle. I don't expect to be in this job for to long, unless God (both sides) have something to say about it. Gotta remember to do a blog on the sides of God.

We have the army side or our network command (net.com as I like to callem) and then we have the civi side. The army had relegated 90% of the task on this base to the civilians, which is a mistake in my opinion, but the army pay scale doesn't allow for it to keep its IT people at what they pay them so they have to go to civilians.

As civilians, things are good and bad, were a bunch of wussies who think to much, where as the army are to gun ho, where they think a little and act a lot or shoot first and ask questions later as the phrase goes.

An improvement I would love to see, would be to see my army counter parts everyday, the people that we affect on a daily basis, I would love to see them face to face. I don't do well not seeing faces and issues at the same time. I guess you could say, I'm to customer service oriented or I like face to face interaction and not email to email. Sending me and interacting via email means nothing to me, which is why I have a hard time now with what I do.

This Job, CRM (customer relations manager) was touted as something new and exciting every day. I would meet new people (duh, its a new job and new set of people) and do awesome things. Now if you know me, that wasn't what was said but what I heard, and yes I got my hopes up really really high on an imagined "what should be" position paying what I deem as ok money. My mother says its good money, which is fine too.

I paused for a min to imagine the ideal IT structure for APG (aberdeen proving grounds). It would be a huge building, 3 stories tall, white in color with a big sign reading "IT helpdesk". Why, you ask, well, white is easy to spot, and IT helpdesk is a term that just about everyone knows. The 3 levels represent the main three levels of IT today in its rawest form. They are: 1. first floor, the techs, the worker bee's, 2. Networking 3. Management. Funny thing is, also, in my head, you have to start from the bottom to make it to the top, there is no skipping, cause to be at the top you must understand the first 2 levels.

gotta remember to do an on going blog on women.
